Confederate States of America currency collection, 1858-1864 and 1913.

One typed letter (1913) from Franklin MacVeagh, U.S. Secretary of the Treasury, to the Lawrence Public Library; 24 Confederate bills (1861-1864); one State of Indiana bill (1858); and one facsimile. The assortment of Confederate notes was given to the library, as historic relics, to be used for exhibition purposes. The bills were confiscated by the War Dept., at the end of the Civil War and turned over to the U.S. Treasury Dept. in 1867.
